Requirements:

1a. You are a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.

1b. You live OR work in New York City (i.e. brooklyn, queens, manhattan, bronx, staten island.)

2. You are of Good Moral Character. This includes having not been arrested and/or convicted of a felony. (you MUST submit to a FBI and NYPD finger print background check)

3. You are at least 18 years of age.

4. ***** You are willing to commit to a 4-5 hour tour ONE NIGHT A WEEK, from about 6pm-10pm (weekend tours are available). *****

5. You are in in good health and physically fit.

6. You are able to read and write English.

7. You understand that the NYPD Auxiliary Police is a paramilitary organization. That means that like the regular police force, we have a hierarchy .i.e. Auxiliary Police Officer, Auxiliary Sergeant, Aux. Lieutenant ,Aux Captain, Aux Deputy Inspector).

8. You have a STRONG desire to meet new people, HAVE FUN, and have a weekly stroll in perhaps the greatest park in the world. If you're not having fun, there's no point in being in this program. This IS a volunteer program after all.

9. Each precinct has its own character. The Auxiliary Unit in Central Park is a good humored unit. Although WE ARE SERIOUS WHEN WE NEED TO BE, we also have fun with each other. In other words, you should be able to be able to take a joke/insult from us.....as well as give them back to us too!!!

10. To become an Auxiliary Police Officer you must take a 16 week course that meets once a week.
This is a mini-police academy that ends in a graduation ceremony at One Police Plaza.
We are recruiting for a winter training class scheduled to start in January.
This class will be held on a Weeknight (to be determined) from 7pm-9pm AT THE Central Park Precinct (86th street transverse)!!
Topics include basic penal laws, nightstick training, hand to hand combat, and hand-cuffing techniques.
Following successful completion of a multiple choice test and nightstick usage test you will be issued your shield and I.D., and be an official APO in the NYPD Central Park Precinct's Auxiliary Police Unit!!!
